Last year I started the tradition of writing a post sharing photos from the school year. This year, I have continued the tradition in this post with photos from the 2021-2022 school year.

Students brought in food and beverages from the French speaking world to celebrate National French Week.

At Thanksgiving, students cut out their hands on construction paper and wrote things they were thankful for on each finger. They also learned, or were reminded, that although Thanksgiving is a great time for Americans to stop and reflect on what they are thankful for, Thanksgiving is not celebrated in the French speaking world, other than in Canada where it is a harvest holiday. Our school had a door decorating contest in December. I didn’t win, but my students and I had fun making it!
My students put on a wonderful edition of “Shrek” in February. It was great to see them performing onstage!
After learning about Mardi Gras and Carnaval, students enjoyed Mardi Gras dishes such as King’s Cake.

After learning about the French tradition of Poisson d’avril on April Fool’s Day, students decorated fake fish to stick on each other’s backs. Click here for more photos.

After a two year hiatus, my French club students were able to return to one of our local elementary schools to teach lessons to 2nd and 3rd graders. The older students, as always, did a great job, and the younger students loved it. Click here to learn more about this project.

It was great to bring back my annual crêpe event. Traditionally, I do this project to coincide with Chandeleur, but this year I had to reschedule it to May. The students enjoyed it all the same. Students took each others’ orders in French and enjoyed a crêpe with a filling of their choosing. Click here for more photos.
In June I had a mini awards ceremony for students who demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and achievement in French, where I served refreshments.
After learning about impressionism, students recreated their own impressionist painting digitally, using a free program called Kleki. Click here to see the results.
